Hi Pydana Beauties!

The last 6-8 weeks have been so surreal. Many of us have been adjusting to changes in our work schedules, to not being able to get out of the house to do fun activities, and adjusting to having the kids home from school full time.
Now more than ever, self-care is a MUST. There are several ways you can start a self-care routine. In this blog, we share 7 Self-Care things you should do while Quarantined.

1. Up the Ante on your Skin Care Regimen

Stress and anxiety can wreak havoc on your skin. When your stress levels increase, your body increases production of stress-related hormones such as cortisol which disrupts the skin barrier, compromising it and making it more prone to being permeable to bacteria which results in acne breakouts. You can use this extended time at home to pamper your skin and come up with a stellar skin care routine that will nourish and improve your skin.

Use a gentle cleanser to keep your skin surface clean and invest in our Pydana Face Care Trio. Our trio includes our Rosehip & Vitamin C Facial Moisturizer, our Kalahari Facial Oil, and our Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum.
Our moisturizer softens, smooths, and moisturizes the skin. Rosehip oil reduces the appearance of dark marks and scars, while vitamin C is an anti-aging ingredient that boosts collagen production. Our facial oil contains Kalahari which is perfect for regenerating skin cells, stopping the over-production of oil on the skin, and keeps the skin soft and supple. Lastly, our serum is packed with hyaluronic acid which boosts the elasticity and hydration of the skin, leading to smoother skin and less fine lines/wrinkles.
Come out of this quarantine with glowing, moisturized skin. You should take the time each week to treat your skin at least once a day for best results.

2. Simplify Your Wash Day Routine

With even more responsibility happening at home while we are on lockdown, this is time that you need to keep your wash day routine nice and simple.
Each week, you can simplify your wash day routine to 3 steps:

Cleanse- Using the Pydana Collection Gentle Cleanse Shampoo
Condition- Using the Avocado and Babassu Herbal Silk Deep Moisture Treatment and our Pydana Thermal Cap
Style- Green Tea and Babassu Herbal Silk Twisting Buttercream

You can turn your wash day into a spa day by incorporating your facial care routine into your wash day routine. You can relax and unwind with your favorite beverage and take your time as you rejuvenate your skin and revive your hair.

3. Perfect Your Protective Styling

Is there a protective style that you have been really wanting to try out? Now is the perfect time to test it out and practice on yourself or your children. With no telling how long it will be until things are completely back to normal, putting in a protective style gives you one less thing to worry about!
Mini twists, braids, faux locs, and flat twists are just some of the great ways that you can give your hair a break and allow for uninterrupted growth. While your hair is in a protective style, treat your scalp with our Luscious Locs Herbal Silk Oil.

4. Start Keeping a Journal

Did you know that a great way to reduce stress is to write down your thoughts in a journal? Journaling can help you get rid of negative thoughts and work through your anxious feelings. Instead of allowing your thoughts to crowd your brain and cause you to overthink and worry, you can write out your feelings and “release” them from your brain to give you a sense of relief.
Take 5-15 minutes of your day to write down what is happening in your life and how you feel about the current events. Journaling has been shown to actually improve physical health. A study published in 2006 in the journal of American Medical Association discovered that patients suffering with chronic illness who wrote down their thoughts regarding stressful situations, actually experienced fewer physical symptoms than patients who did not journal. The study focused on 112 patients diagnosed with asthma and arthritis that were asked to write in a journal for 20 minutes, three days in a row about either an emotionally stressful situation or about their daily plans. The group who was asked to journal about an emotionally stressful situation, showed a 50% improvement in their disease after four months.

5. Protect Your Mental Health

More than likely, this quarantine has disrupted your normal, everyday routine. One of the best ways to protect your mental your health during this time is to keep your routine as normal as possible.
The scientific literature on wellness and mood suggest that maintaining your daily routine helps to keep your mentality stable. Keep your daily routine as much as possible. Resist the urge to sleep in and stay up late for long periods. Not getting adequate rest affects how our neurons (brain cells) communicate with each other. This leads to temporary mental lapses, irritability, and even impairment in visual perception.
Studies also show that getting dressed instead of staying in your pajamas can improve your mood and help your mental state. If you are going to be at home all day, getting dressed outside of your pajamas during the day can lead to increased productivity, optimism, and an overall improved mood.
Take the time to go outside and walk around your yard or neighborhood as you practice social distancing. Surrounding yourself with the fresh oxygenated air, the greenery of the outdoors, the colors of the plants, flowers, and the blue sky reduces the same stress hormone cortisol that was mentioned earlier. The ambiance of nature and fresh oxygen also stimulate the production of dopamine and endorphins in the brain which are the neurotransmitters or chemical messengers in the brain that help us feel the emotion of happiness.

6. Organize Your Living Space

Being in a clean, uncluttered setting is a great form of self-care. There is something freeing about being in a clear and clean space that really allows your mind to be at ease. Being surrounded by clutter, untidiness, and chaos can make you feel overwhelmed and easily fatigued. Cleaning and organizing your living space can help you feel focused and pleasantly relaxed. Psychologically, cleaning gives our mind a sense of control and accomplishment. Cleaning also helps you feel resilient and self-confident. The simple act of having control over the aesthetic of your surroundings can mean so much for your self-care during a time where so much is out of your control.

7. Allow Yourself to Relax with Yoga

During this time when so much is uncertain, it is easy to feel uptight and on edge. It’s at times like this, where you need to remind your mind and body to relax. Holding on to tension causes muscle aches, headaches, and a buildup of stress in the body. Prolonged stress can cause digestive issues and a compromised immune system which is definitely not what you need during a global pandemic.
An excellent way to incorporate full mind/body relaxation is to practice yoga.
According to the Mayo Clinic, practicing yoga is beneficial for the body in three areas:
It reduces stress and anxiety: Yoga relieves the body and mind of stressful triggers, enhancing your overall mood and well being
It improves fitness and balance: Practicing yoga trains the body to improve balance, posture, range of motion, and strength
It helps to manage chronic conditions: Yoga can reduce your risk factors for chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, pain, anxiety, and insomnia.

Have you Beauties tried any of these self-care techniques? If you haven’t tried any, which ones would you like to try? Stay safe and healthy!
